失败乃成功之母(shī bài nǎi chéng gōng zhī mǔ):directly translated as “failure is the mother of success”; refers to the success comes from many times failing, learning and experimenting. There’s a similar saying in English too.

*** The Power of Failure ***

Will failures definitely bring us success?

YES, if we analyze and learn the lesson from the failure. NO, if we just let it go.

Do we have to fail many times before reaching the goal?

I would say some failures are avoidable by learning from the others’. Vise verse, we can share our failure stories to help the others. So my advice for “making full use” of failures is to be open about yours and be open minded about others’.

For the leaders or HR professionals, next time when interviewing a candidate, maybe it is good to ask and share a “failed experience”.

But, avoiding unnecessary failure is not about being afraid of it. Fear of failure is a stressor which affects performance as we all known. People may choose to “stay safe” or stop trying.

Yale has the Credit/D/Fail option for the undergraduate students, so they can take more challenging or experimental courses without worrying about pass the exam and graduate. http://catalog.yale.edu/handbook-instructors-undergraduates-yale-college/grades/credit-d-fail-option/

Can organizations and leaders learn anything from this?
